Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has suggested that Press Council Nepal should regularly give orientation to the editors of both new and running news portals.
During an inspection visit to Press Council Nepal on Tuesday, Minister Sharma asked the Council to further intensify and effectively conduct the training and orientation on the code of conduct.
In recent days, the Council is running orientation classes for the news portal editors and managers.
Likewise, Minister Sharma said that the Council should proactively work to hold mass media more accountable through the implementation of the code of conduct.
On the occasion, Minister Sharma said that the Council Museum was a platform to preserve the traditional medium of the mass media and thus was a vital job for the new generation.
She also vowed to coordinate with the stakeholders to make the Press Council Act more contextual and manage the issues of the media.
Secretary at the Ministry Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, Chairperson of the Council Bal Krishna Basnet, and other officials at the Council shared their views at the event urging the minister to address the issues the country’s media sector was facing.
